Heavy traffic is expected on major highways as the CNY holiday ends.
As people return home after the Chinese New Year holiday, traffic on some major highways in the country is expected to increase and become congested beginning this afternoon.
According to a Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesman, the North-South Expressway (NSE) will be congested from Gopeng to Tapah, Sungkai to Slim River, and Pedas Linggi to Port Dickson.
Traffic is also expected to be heavy from Bukit Tinggi to the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway toll plaza at Gombak (KLK).
To avoid payment delays at toll plazas, the public is advised to plan their journeys and ensure their Touch ‘n Go balance is sufficient.
Due to a car breaking down and causing an obstruction on the right lane, there was a four-kilometer (km) traffic jam at KM 263.4 NSE southbound heading from Kuala Kangsar to Ipoh Utara.
Previously, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated that 3.8 million vehicles were expected to use highways nationwide during the Chinese New Year celebrations this year.
