KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported on Thursday, February 29, that a category two heatwave was recorded in the Pokok Sena area of Kedah at 4:50 p.m.
When daily maximum temperatures reach 37 to 40 degrees Celsius for three days straight, it’s referred to as a stage two heatwave.
Additionally, 21 locations on the peninsula—including Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, and Sarawak—recorded a cautious heatwave level.
When daily maximum temperatures fall between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for three days in a row, it is referred to as a level one heatwave, also known as the cautious level.
According to earlier announcements from MetMalaysia, the nation is in the latter stages of the Northeast Monsoon, which means that there will be less rainfall and drier weather overall, with higher temperatures than typical. -Bernama
