The Minister of Seals announced that Hari Raya Haji will fall on July 10.
Hajj is a holiday for fellow Muslims. It falls in the last month of the Islamic calendar, on the tenth day of the month of Hajj. The exact date of Hajj is determined by the Royal Assent of the Head of State.
According to a circular issued by the Office of the Minister of State, the first day of the last month of the Islamic calendar (Zulhijah) in 1443 falls on July 1, 2022, and therefore Hajj falls 10 days later, on July 10.
Since July 10 falls on a Sunday, most of the states in the country enjoy a compensatory day off on July 11 (Monday).
Four states in the country have designated the day following Haji as a public holiday, namely Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis. This also means that July 11 is a national public holiday, except for Johor.
Since Johor has not designated the day after Haji as a public holiday, and Sunday is not a weekly holiday in Johor, Johor is not entitled to Haji holiday on July 11.
