After officially declaring his connection with actress Lee Da-in, South Korean actor Lee Seung-gi, who had previously enjoyed a great reputation and was frequently referred to as the “Nation’s younger brother” or “Nation’s son-in-law,” experienced a sharp decrease in his standing.

This is due to the fact that Lee Da-in’s family was embroiled in financial fraud problems, and their connection was poorly welcomed, which hurt Lee Seung-gi’s reputation.

On April 7, Lee Seung-gi and Lee Da-in staged a lavish century wedding that was comparable to a significant awards ceremony and was attended by over half of South Korea’s entertainment industry’s stars. However, in recent times, rumors have been circulating in South Korean internet communities claiming Lee Seung-gi and Lee Da-in gave their wedding guests a flower pot and a letter as a wedding gift. “We hope that everyone can bloom like the flowers in the vase, and we thank you all for your blessings,” the letter’s opening line read. We will blossom gloriously with the fragrance of our hearts, and the good aroma will permeate the entire globe as we live beautifully. Our condolences are sent from Seung-gi and Ro-yoon (Lee Da-in’s true name).

The flower pot was built by Byun Hoon, a potter with 40 years of experience, and cost about 70,000 South Korean won (about RM233), according to a report by the South Korean media site “10 Asia”. Netizens criticized the present after the cost was made public, labeling it “stingy,” especially considering that the couple spent nearly 200 million South Korean won (about RM66,000) on their wedding.

The presents provided by actor Hyun Bin and actress Son Ye-jin, whose grandiose wedding cost over a billion won, were also contrasted in South Korean media. More opulent gifts from Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin included a tiny Tom Ford perfume, eye cream, and crystal glasses with a total retail value of nearly 800,000 South Korean won (about RM2,600).

Lee Seung-gi and Lee Da-in were mocked for “doing good deeds with other people’s money” on South Korean online forums even after they gave 100 million won to aid needy communities. It appears that Lee Seung-gi’s wife’s reputation has not been able to recover despite his detailed defense of her in a previous post.
