Grab launches its own custom-made map, GrabMaps

10/06/2022

GrabMaps, a custom-made map from Grab.

Grab’s map, GrabMaps, will be available in the third quarter of this year!

Grab announced in December 2021 that it would continue to build its digital map GrabMaps, and now expects the service to be fully operational in the third quarter of 2022, with no reliance on third-party map services.

GrabMaps was created for internal usage, because typical maps do not show the alleys and narrow streets found in Southeast Asian cities. Grab chose to construct its digital map as a solution to this challenge in order to increase business efficiency and cut costs.

Grab handles tens of thousands of pickups and deliveries every day, so it has access to the most recent and accurate road data.

GrabMaps will be created in collaboration with drivers, passengers, and business partners. GrabMaps not only has a function for calculating geographic position and distance time, but it also has real-time traffic and parking information.

GrabMaps is currently in use in seven countries and will be officially introduced in the third quarter of 2022, removing the need for third-party map services entirely.
