Finance Minister Tunku Zafrul announced in late October during the presentation of the budget in the National Assembly that the government will give out RM150 eStart e-wallets to young people aged 18 to 20. The government has not yet announced how and when the RM150 eStart bonus will be released.
Many people are wondering why the government is only giving out the eStart bonus to young people between the ages of 18 and 20. This is because the government wants to help all age groups and all groups in need. 18 to 20 year olds fall into the more awkward age of neither getting assistance to start school nor getting assistance from Malaysian families.
Primary and secondary school students between the ages of 7 and 17 are eligible for assistance to start school at RM150, while young people over the age of 21 are also eligible for BKM and those who are eligible to pay income tax are also eligible for income tax relief. Currently, only young people between the ages of 18 and 20 are not eligible for BKM.
To ensure that young people between the ages of 18 and 20 do not feel left out, the government has decided to issue an eStart of RM150 to young people in this age group.
Recalling the government’s eBelia e-wallet rewards program launched in early 2021, eligible individuals can receive e-wallet rewards through Boost, Touch ‘n Go e-wallet, ShopeePay and BigPay.
