25/12/2022

The government will use JPJ’s data to identify who is eligible for fuel subsidies.

According to a message from Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Seri Salahuddin, the government will use data from the Land Transport Department (JPJ) to determine the beneficiaries of the targeted fuel subsidy scheme.

JPJ has complete data that will enable the government to identify who is eligible for the fuel subsidy based on the horsepower and type of vehicle. This also means that the government may grant fuel subsidies to owners of vehicles with engines of 1,500 cc or less, and not to owners of vehicles with engines of 1,500 cc or more.

The government may also determine the beneficiaries of the fuel subsidy based on the type and brand of the car, such as people who drive luxury cars are not entitled to the fuel subsidy, and only people who drive small domestic cars are entitled to the fuel subsidy.

According to the previous news from the government, the government provided a total of RM27 billion for RON95 petrol subsidy, of which 22% or 6 billion is for the B40 low income group, the rest of the subsidy are enjoyed by the M40 and T20 groups.

The M40 middle income group enjoys 46% of the petrol subsidy or RM13 billion worth of petrol subsidy, while the T20 enjoys 32% or RM8 billion of petrol subsidy.
