According to a message from Finance Minister Tunku Zafrul, government began testing a new petrol subsidy scheme last week and will then bring the new scheme to the Cabinet for decision.
Minister of Finance was reluctant to reveal the new petrol subsidy mechanism, saying only that it might be used differently in different regions. Not all places are suitable for petrol cards, and some people prefer to use cash.
The Minister said that the government needs more time to try out the new petrol subsidy mechanism because it involves many people and the government needs a better mechanism.
