Government will announce on Wednesday 7 September whether it will no longer be compulsory for people to wear masks in public, according to the Health Minister. Ministry of Health has received advice from experts and is still assessing whether it is appropriate to implement this measure.
Ministry of Health believes that the proposal of not mandating the wearing of masks needs to be explored in depth and should not be followed just because Singapore has implemented the measure of not mandating the wearing of masks, as our situation may be different from that of Singapore.
Singapore has now relaxed the rules on wearing masks, which means that masks can not be worn indoors or outdoors, except on public transport and when visiting health care facilities.
As to when the country will enter the stage of an endemic epidemic, Health Minister Carey believes that we still need to wait for an official announcement from the World Health Organisation (WHO), which still defines covid as a public health emergency.
