April 3 is the first day of the annual month of Ramadan! The month of Ramadan will be celebrated by Muslims in the country. In line with the arrival of the fasting month, various government departments in the country will also adjust their office hours.

According to the situation in previous years, all domestic government departments will adjust their office hours during the month of Ramadan, and some departments will even shorten their opening hours. Some government departments will open earlier than 7.30am, cancel lunch break at noon and close their counters at 3.30pm or 4pm.

If you are planning to visit a government department during Ramadan, you should pay special attention to the latest office hours to avoid a wasted trip.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Minister of the Ruler, the Malay Rulers’ Council is scheduled to observe the new moon on Friday afternoon, April 1, to decide on the date of Ramadan. After observing the new moon on that day, the Minister will announce the official date of the start of the month of Ramadan for Muslims through television and radio that evening.

It is predicted that the first day of Ramadan will fall on Sunday, April 3, and the first day of Ramadan will be a public holiday in three states in the country, namely Johor, Kedah and Melaka. This means that these 3 states are entitled to a holiday on April 3.
