The Google Wallet feature has finally arrived in Malaysia’s payment market, allowing users to use their phones as bank cards and touch merchants’ payment terminals to complete payments.

Google Wallet is a Google Wallet application that users can download from the Google Play app store and add their bank cards to Google Wallet. After that, users can pay by Google Pay when they spend money in stores.

Simply put, Google Wallet is a cell phone instead of a bank card, and the payment is done by way of payWave. So, as long as the merchant supports payWave for bank cards, you can use Google Wallet.

Currently CIMB Bank (MasterCard Credit Card), Hong Leong Bank (Visa Credit and Debit Card, MasterCard Debit Card) and Public Bank (Visa Credit and MasterCard) all support Google Wallet. HSBC will also support Google Wallet in the coming months.

Once you have downloaded and added your card, you can use Google Wallet to make payments in stores. You can choose to open Google Wallet when you pay, you can choose to unlock your phone without opening Google Wallet, or you can choose not to unlock your phone at all, but to touch your phone directly to the merchant’s payment terminal, you can complete the payment.

It is important to note that if you pay without unlocking your phone, the limit is RM250 per payment.

How to add your bank card in Google Wallet

Step 1: Search and download Google Wallet from Google Play Store.

Step 2: Open Google Wallet and click Add a Card to add a bank card.

Step 3: Fill in the bank card details and your personal information.

Step 4: You will receive an OTP verification code from your bank.

Step 5: Enter the OTP verification code and you are done.

Step 6: Make sure your phone’s NFC is turned on when using Google Wallet.

How to pay with Google Wallet / Google Pay in stores

Step 1: Open Google Wallet APP and select the bank card you want to use.

Step 2: Touch your phone to the merchant’s payment terminal to complete the payment.

*Google Wallet also supports the function of payment without opening the app, so users can touch the phone to the merchant’s payment terminal to complete the payment without unlocking the phone.
