Google Chrome adds new password management features! Allow users to add comments to passwords!

23/02/2022

Google added the ability to manually add passwords to the Chrome browser a few months ago, and although this feature has not yet entered a stable version, it seems that Google will further enhance the password management function to make it more user-friendly.

On the online forum Reddit, netizen u/Leopeva64-2 found that the latest version of Chrome Canary recently allows users to add comments to saved passwords, which users may see when manually adding new passwords and editing existing ones. There’s also a “Comments” field.

Although Google has not officially clarified the purpose of the relevant “note” so far, everyone is guessing that it could be used to save a list of security questions, or to store information about the last time the user changed their password and set it as a Automatic expiration time and other information.

The news also sparked a discussion on Reddit, with some expressing concern over whether it would be encrypted, considering it involved sensitive information; but others expressing their belief that Google will only do so after rigorous testing and ensuring best cybersecurity practices. This feature will be made available. At the moment, only users on Chrome Canary 101 can add annotations.
