Good news: starting in 2024, Singapore will no longer require a passport to enter the country.
The automated border control system (Automated Border Control System), also known as the automatic customs clearing channel of ABCS, will gradually replace the manual counters in all checkpoints beginning in the first quarter of 2024, according to the Singapore Immigration Service.
At that time, these checkpoints will have roughly 800 automatic customs clearing channels, allowing travelers to bypass the hassle of having their passports and fingerprints scanned by using their facial characteristics and irises to get past customs!
The Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority will also introduce an autonomous customs clearance system for passengers in vehicles in 2024 in an effort to reduce traffic congestion at land checkpoints. In other words, in the future, to pass through customs when driving a car into and out of Singapore, you will only need to scan the QR code.
