Frugal Japanese Man Saves Millions for Early Retirement

A 45-year-old middle-aged man in Japan has been living a frugal lifestyle for the past 20 years in order to accomplish his dream of early retirement.

He has been eating plain rice, a pickled plum, or rice with seasonings for dinner. He has saved 93 million Japanese yen (approximately 3.09 million Malaysian Ringgit) through this disciplined approach, and he is close to reaching his goal of accumulating 100 million Japanese yen (approximately 3.31 million Malaysian Ringgit) for his early retirement fund by the age of 50.

According to a post by “Observer Network” on Weibo, the man claimed that he has a strong desire for early retirement and does not want to spend his days completely focused on producing money. As a result, he has kept his dinner simple for a long time in order to save money.

Furthermore, the man, who is currently single, admits to having a girlfriend in the past. However, he saw marriage as an additional financial responsibility, so he chose to break up with his girlfriend in order to expedite his savings. He believes that as long as he can retire early and be free of the demands of work, he is content to be single for the rest of his life.

Despite his basic dinner, the man drinks vegetable juice and consumes additional vitamins to augment the nutrients his body requires to preserve his health and nutrition. He also has monthly health checks to ensure that his basic diet is not compromising his health.

The man has no property and lives in a tiny flat for 30,000 Japanese yen (about 1,000 Malaysian Ringgit) each month. Despite owning basic amenities such as a washing machine, microwave, and refrigerator, he chooses to buy inexpensive and functional items, keeping his everyday material desires to a minimum.

Some netizens were taken aback by this Japanese man’s pursuit of an early retirement lifestyle.
