The prices of ingredients needed by cooked food vendors, such as noodles, meat, eggs, vegetables and soy sauce, are all rising, forcing some vendors to raise the price of their food.
From 26th March, domestic flour prices will rise again, by between 7% and 11% for all brands of flour. The price of a 25kg packet of flour will increase by RM7, while the wholesale price of 10 packets of 1kg bulk flour will increase by RM2.50 per box, which means an average increase of RM25 per packet of flour.
Russia accounts for 33% of the world’s wheat supply. Russia has started to block wheat exports and the sanctions imposed on Russia by Europe and the US have also directly affected the price of wheat. Global wheat supplies are tight, which in turn has led to higher flour prices.
