Former Prime Minister Najib posted a question, why RFID tags cost less than RM 1, but to sell RM 35?

18/01/2022

According to former Prime Minister Najib’s Facebook post, the cost of each RFID tag is less than RM1, why would it be sold for RM35. Najib believes that because of the low cost of RFID tags, they should be given to all Touch ‘n Go users for free.

Najib also pointed out that in 2018 to February 2020, RFID tags are free, but from February 15, 2020 onwards to sell at RM 35. Naji also posted pictures of other NFC RFID stickers for sale at Shopee on Facebook, 10 NFC RFID stickers are sold at Shopee for only RM3.13, meaning that the average cost per sticker is only about RM0.31.

North-South Expressway toll booths from January 15 began to support the RFID Tag to pay the toll, but the RFID system does not work well, which led to traffic congestion at several Avenue toll booths. The system is unstable, often can not successfully scan the vehicle information, so the fence can not open, which led to long lines at the toll booths.
