The blogger was fined RM4,500 for making an abusive comment on Agong.
The Sessions Court in this city today fined blogger Aspan Alias RM4,500 for inappropriate use of network resources when he posted derogatory remarks on Facebook about the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Aspan, 70, amended his plea to guilty when the case was mentioned, and Judge Nor Hasniah Ab Razak handed down the fine and, in default, six months in jail.
Aspan was accused of starting the transmission of offensive communication against the King on his Facebook account with the profile name “Aspan Alias” at 2:47 PM on May 16, 2021, with the goal to annoy others.
The offense is punishable under Section 233 (3) of the Communications and Multimedia Act of 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a maximum sentence of one year in jail, as well as a daily fine of RM1,000 for each day the offense continues after conviction. The charge is based on Section 233 (1) (a) of that law.
His attorney, Nurul Huda Razali, had already disclosed to the court during mitigation that her client was unemployed and had diabetes and high blood pressure.
She said that he felt bad about what he did.
