SETIU: The number of flood evacuees in Terengganu has risen to 7,488 persons from 2,215 households as the rainy season continues.
As at 10 p.m., these flood victims had been relocated to 127 relief centres.
Kemaman had the biggest number of flood evacuees, with 2,041 persons from 559 households seeking shelter at 19 relief centres.
Rescuers rescued 1,162 individuals from 361 households to 28 flood relief centres in Setiu, and 1,119 people from 331 families to 17 flood relief centres in Dungun.
In Besut, 1,105 individuals from 236 families were evacuated to 42 relief centres, while 1,811 people from 654 households were relocated to 24 comfort centres in Hulu Terengganu.
Five members of one family are still residing in a temporary shelter.
Floods in Kuala Terengganu have affected 40 persons from nine families, who are temporarily housed in a single relief centre. 205 persons from 64 families have been evacuated from Kuala Nerus to five relief centres.
According to the secretariat of the State Disaster Management Committee, further heavy rain across the state may compel more people in low-lying areas to flee their homes later tonight.
