KUALA LUMPUR: The Army, as the lead agency of Ops Murni, has received a contribution of RM100,000 from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to procure support equipment for use during the operation and the post-flood phase.
The Defence Ministry said in a statement Monday (Dec 18) that the items include life jackets for adults and children, umbrellas and other necessities, shovels, boots and brushes.
“In March, the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) also received… disaster operation mobility equipment for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) efforts worth RM9.97mil.
“Among the assets received were inflatable boats with 40HP outboard motors, aluminium “‘vee-bottom’ assault boats with 60HP motors, a trailer boat, HADR boat carrier, and a one-tonne 4WD truck,” the statement read.
It added that as of now, a total of 995 officers and 16,094 members of other various ranks from the three Armed Forces service branches, namely the Army, Royal Malaysian Navy and Royal Malaysian Air Force, were standing by nationwide to tackle any eventuality.
The ministry said areas currently receiving high rainfall and experiencing floods included districts in Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor and Perak.
It said the Armed Forces had mobilised teams for the rescue and evacuation of flood victims and to provide assistance at relief centres.
“At the same time, the ministry has also arranged for the Forward Medical Team to assist the Health Ministry with check-ups,” the statement said.
Earlier, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin received a briefing on Ops Murni from operation leader Army chief Gen Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman at Wisma Pertahanan here, with Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman also present. – Bernama
