Flooding forced the closure of Lawas Airport.
The Lawas River broke its banks and inundated the airport runway Friday night, forcing the airport to close momentarily due to flooding.
The water level at the airport, according to Lawas Fire and Rescue Department Director Azman Ibrahim, was three metres deep.
The water at the airport was caused by continuous heavy rain in higher Lawas. As a result, the airport will be temporarily closed for cleaning and debris removal activities.
In March of this year, the airport was again forced to close for three days due to flooding on the runway.
Rural Air Services operator MASwings had to cancel 48 flights, affecting 426 people, due to the three-day closure.
Apart from the airport, Azman claimed that SK Kerangan Lawas was also flooded last night.
