The first case of Omicron variant in Malaysia!

According to the Ministry of Health, a 19-year-old foreign university student who arrived in Singapore from South Africa and flew into the country was diagnosed with the Omicron variant! The patient is a student of the University of Perak Ipoh who has completed vaccination.

The student was isolated at home in a dormitory prepared by the university from November 19 to 29 without any symptoms and was diagnosed on November 20 with a CT value of 26.68. The student was transferred from KLIA airport to Ipoh via a bus specially prepared by the university. Details of the Omicron variant had not been released by WHO at the time.

The WHO only listed Omicron as a variant virus requiring special attention on November 24. Subsequently, samples from confirmed cases that entered the country between November 11 and 28 were tested and one suspected case of Omicron was found. After testing, the case was confirmed as an Omicron case only on Dec. 2.

The Ministry of Health tested five close contacts of the patient, namely the passenger and driver of the bus, for coronary disease and both tests were negative. The Ministry of Health has re-subpoenaed her after determining that she was infected with Omicron.
