Perhaps you have often encountered some hawkers selling things on the roadside, or even some hawkers running into the middle of the road to sell things to people in their cars while they are stuck in a traffic jam or waiting for traffic lights. However, if you come across these hawkers, do not buy anything from them as this can result in a fine of up to RM2000.
Such street peddling typically occurs during off-duty hours, when vendors park their cars on the road and walk up and down to see which cars are mainly buying fruit, food, or drinks from them.
The police warned that cars should not stop on the road and buy from these hawkers, which could lead to a fine of up to RM2,000 or up to six months ‘imprisonment if caught.
Any person suspected of peddling goods at traffic lights may be dealt with under Section 10A(1) of the Land Transport Act of 1959; Purchasers can be fined up to RM2,000 under Section 10A (1) of the Land Transport Act 1959.
Police also warned people to stop their cars and park in a safe place if they want to buy from street vendors.
