FIFA Annual Awards | 12 giants’ captains all voted for Messi in 1st place, Harland lost to lack of popularity.

FIFA officially announced at the annual awards ceremony, 36-year-old Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, reigning as this year’s FIFA Player of the Year (World Footballer of the Year), Messi’s eighth career World Footballer of the Year award.

And then, FIFA also announced the total scores of the top 3 FIFA best players of the year. Messi and Harland both had 48 points, but Messi was elected over Harland by having more votes in the 1st place of the national team captain vote.

According to FIFA’s voting information, several national team superstar captains have chosen Messi in the 1st place. Like Croatian captain Modric, Egyptian captain Salah, Dutch captain Van Dyk, England captain Kane, Polish captain Levin, Belgian captain Lukaku, French captain Mbappe, South Korean captain Son Heung-min, Scottish captain Robertson, Uruguayan captain Valverde, Italian captain Donnarumma, Slovenian captain Oblak and so on.

They are all superstar figures in today’s international soccer world, and they all chose to vote for Messi, proving once again that the Argentine king’s election is well deserved. In addition, Chinese soccer captain Wu Xi also put Messi in the 1st place in his vote.

Only Argentina’s arch-enemy, Brazil’s captain Casemiro, Norway’s captain Ödgård, and Harland’s former teammate at Manchester City, Germany’s captain Gündoğan, chose Harland in the 1st place. And Portugal’s acting captain Pepe, naturally, didn’t choose Messi either, with his top three votes in the order of B-seat, Harland and Osmeen. As for Portugal’s regular captain Cairo, he once again refused to participate in the voting for the World Footballer of the Year after last year.
