The Federal Court dismissed former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib’s appeal in the SRC case and upheld the High Court’s decision that Najib was guilty of all seven charges in the RM42 million money laundering case involving SRC International.
The five divisions of the Federal Court headed by Chief Justice Tunku Maimu announced the verdict of the SRC case on August 23, 2022 at around 4pm. The Federal Court upheld the High Court’s verdict and sentenced Najib to 12 years in jail and a fine of RM210 million.
Najib was convicted of abuse of power and sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of RM210 million. In addition, Najib’s three counts of breach of trust and three counts of money laundering will each require 10 years in prison. Najib was originally sentenced to 72 years in prison and a fine of RM210 million for the seven crimes involved, but the sentences could be served concurrently, so Najib was only sentenced to 12 years in prison.
