“I can’t speak for the LPF, and I know that the National Film Development Authority of Malaysia (FINAS) has made a statement, but not about censorship. SOPs are written by the EPA and FINAS and are used to guide any procedures that FINAS is in charge of.”
“I think we might have to look at some SOPs again because it’s clear that they’re not being followed here. I’ve heard that the EPA approved “Pulau” last September, before I became minister of communications and before the current government took office.”
Yesterday, after he saw the premiere of “Duan Nago Bogho,” he was asked if the EPA or the National Film Development Authority would change their minds about putting out the “Pulau” trailer.
He talked about the “Pulau” trailer that went viral on the Internet and said that he didn’t agree with what it said. He said that he had talked to GSC Cinemas and was told that the producers had decided to pull the trailer and make a new one.
Fahmi said that he had also heard, based on reports he had received, that some parts of the movie had been cut, but they were left out of the trailer and ended up in the trailer by accident.
“The movie itself isn’t as edited as the trailer, but I can’t say much more than that. I beg my media friends to contact the EPA.”
“I’ve told the National Film Development Authority that we need to check this issue, look at it again, and change the SOP in the future. We don’t want it to be approved without more specific research, which I think needs to be done.”
A more than two-minute trailer for the local thriller “Pulau” came out recently, but it is thought to have pornographic parts and has caused controversy.
In response, Mohammad Nasir, the head of the National Film Development Board, said yesterday that the Ministry of Interior’s Electricity Censorship Bureau is in charge of film censorship and that the National Film Development Board has nothing to do with it.
