Employer Voices Frustration as Local Employees Quit for Peculiar Reasons

11/07/2023

An employer recently published a video expressing his anger over hiring three local employees who left for various “bizarre” reasons, according to a Twitter user named @adliehassan, prompting him to remark, “No wonder most employers prefer hiring foreign workers.”

The employer claimed in the video that he had employed three locals for his store after completing interviews, but they all ultimately made the decision to quit claiming various reasons.

“One of them agreed to the salary but later changed his mind. Another one, after discussing the wages and starting work on the first day, didn’t show up on the second day because he had a fight with his sister.”

The third employee, who only worked from 3 pm to 6 pm, made a “special” request, the boss said, asking for a monthly wage of RM 2800.

“As an employer, it is really difficult to fulfill such demands,” he said.

The boss expressed his newfound understanding of why some businesses prefer hiring foreign labor in the video, which received over a million views.

“Now I understand why many companies choose to hire foreign workers. There are job opportunities, but how high of a salary do you (employees) want?”

He added that even if local workers, especially those without experience, respect government regulations, notably those pertaining to wages and allowances, some nevertheless want more pay.

Some locals who assert it is tough to find a job were criticized by their employers. Although there are job openings, some people are excessively fussy and demand exorbitant pay, making it difficult for them to find employment.

The video stirred debate among internet users, the majority of whom agreed with the employer’s point of view. A prevalent misconception is that firms frequently experience difficulties dealing with the work attitudes of local employees in addition to the cost-effectiveness of hiring international personnel.

“For some employers, hiring foreign workers is easier than hiring local employees who often bring various issues such as laziness and sudden disappearances.”

“I have to agree because I am experiencing the same thing. Foreign workers don’t mind, but today’s youngsters are too soft. Many youngsters want high salaries but are lazy to work.”

In other remarks, it was even suggested that boyfriends keep their women from working because of the late hours till 10 pm.

The conversation emphasizes the significance of harmonizing expectations and work attitudes between employers and employees for a positive working environment while highlighting the complexities and obstacles in the employment market.
