Since purchasing the site, Elon Musk, the creator of electric automobile juggernaut Tesla and owner of Twitter, has been known to tweet regularly. Each of his tweets receives a great deal of attention because he is one of the wealthiest people in the world and a well-known personality in the tech sector. He does, however, have a propensity to say things that are debatable, which frequently brings to a storm of criticism. He recently compared well-known American singer Taylor Swift to an actress on Twitter, which sparked a fierce outcry from Swift’s devoted fan base.
On June 8th, Elon Musk posted a side-by-side image comparison on Twitter that showed Taylor Swift and Jon Heder, the principal actor in the movie “Napoleon Dynamite.” When you realize Taylor Swift is actually lead from “Napoleon Dynamite,” Musk said,
“you realize Taylor Swift is doing a reverse cosplay.”
He also added,
“I’m a Taylor Swift fan, but how can we be sure they’re not the same person?”
to the tweet. jokingly implying that Heder and Swift look remarkably similar.
Taylor Swift’s followers immediately voiced their severe displeasure with Musk for comparing her to someone else once the tweet was published. They expressed their ire and displeasure with the analogy, questioning his fandom, and left remarks like,
“Maybe you should look in the mirror and worry about yourself,”
“Can you please leave this planet?” and
“Is he so desperate for Taylor Swift’s attention?”
They also expressed their doubt about his fandom. Musk quickly deleted the post in an effort to appease the irate online community, but his detractors persisted.
