E-hailing driver arrested for molesting a woman.
In an incident on Tuesday at Jalan Bakar Batu, an e-hailing driver was arrested for allegedly outraging the modesty of a female passenger.
The 33-year-old local guy was caught in the city around 1.30 a.m. today, according to Johor Baru South District Police Chief ACP Raub Selamat.
After ending work at a retail mall in the city, the 23-year-old local victim ordered an e-hailing car to return to her house in Permas Jaya, he added.
The guy had urged the victim multiple times to sit in the front passenger seat while on the way, but she had refused because she was concerned about her safety.
When the vehicle was approaching the South Key junction on Jalan Bakar Batu, however, the victim said she had to follow the instruction and move to the front before she was molested.
He said, however, that the victim was able to push the individual away and leave the vehicle before reporting it to the police.
According to Raub, the police confiscated an Oppo phone, keys, and a Perodua Alza automobile used in the event after the man was arrested, and the case was examined under Section 354 of the Penal Code.
He also warned people, particularly ladies travelling alone, to be cautious when using e-hailing services.
