Attention! Driving without a license is punishable by a fine of up to RM3,000, 3 months imprisonment or both!

According to information issued by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), there were 55,000 cases of driving without a license from January to May this year and 347,300 cases from January 2019 to May this year. Most of the violators involved family members, especially parents.

Under Section 26(1) of the Land Transport Act 1987, offenders are liable to a fine of RM300 to RM3,000, imprisonment for a maximum of 3 months, or both.

In addition to the fine and imprisonment, the authorities may also take more severe action against the owner of the vehicle in question by impounding the vehicle under Section 64(1) of the Your Land Transport Act 1987.

Parents are urged to control their children and not to allow them to drive without a driver’s license, which endangers not only their own lives but also the safety of other road users.
