Domestic Internet service providers must provide a minimum download speed of 2.5Mbps.

According to a message sent by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia Tan Sri Annuar Musa, the government has established wireless broadband service quality standards, and domestic network service providers must provide a minimum download speed of 2.5Mbps.

The so-called wireless broadband service quality standard refers to the network speed measured by the Communications and Multimedia Department and the network service provider. Therefore, it may be different from the network speed obtained in the user’s home.

According to the report released by Ookla Speedtest, Malaysia’s mobile network has indeed improved. The Median speed of Malaysia’s mobile network was only 16.95Mbps in October 2020 and reached 23.74Mbps in October 2021. However, this network speed is still some distance away from the 35Mbps set by the Ministry of Communications.

The Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) is divided into 2 stages and each stage has its specific goals to be achieved.

The first phase is from 2020 to 2022. The goal of this phase is to increase 4G network coverage from 91.8% to 96.9%. In addition, the mobile network speed has increased from 25Mbps to 35Mbps, and 83% of buildings support high-speed broadband fixed lines. This stage will also close the 3G network and strengthen the 4G network.

The second stage will promote the 5G network.
