According to the Ministry of Education’s announcement on December 10, the Ministry has received many requests to change the opening date of the new school year. The Ministry of Education believes that the new school year can be phased back to January from 2023 to 2026 by shortening school holidays.
However, the Ministry of Education pointed out that in adjusting the opening day of the new school year for primary and secondary schools, the welfare of staff and students would need to be taken into consideration, as well as the impact of the adjustment on the national economy, so the Ministry decided to delay the proposal for the time being.
The new school year 2023 will still start in March, that is, the new school year will start on March 19, 2023 for Group A states (Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu) and March 20, 2023 for Group B states (other states).
