DHL and the Michelin Group have collaborated to test the first generation of their puncture-resistant UPTIS tyres.

13/01/2023

It has been announced that the Michelin Group and the worldwide shipping firm DHL have formed a cooperation to test the UPTIS puncture-resistant tyres in Singapore. The first pilot vehicles went into service on January 10th, and it’s worth mentioning that the first tyres were ready a full year ahead of schedule. Nearly fifty DHL Express vehicles will be equipped with Michelin UPTIS tyres by the end of 2023.
Michelin’s puncture-resistant UPTIS tyre is suitable for passenger automobiles and light trucks. The invention replaces air with a new and creative framework that supports the car, assuring driving comfort, safety, and wheel toughness. DHL optimises transit productivity and business continuity by avoiding tyre pressure issues and blowouts using Michelin UPTIS tyres. Tire changes will also decrease, saving resources. By 2050, Michelin wants to make all its tyres from bio-sourced, renewable, or recyclable materials. Based on internal studies, Michelin anticipates UPTIS’s no-inflation technology to save 200 million tyres or 2 million tonnes of material from premature scrapping worldwide each year, keeping the weight of 200 Eiffel Towers. Christopher Ong, DHL Express Singapore’s Managing Director, said, “We switched 80 ground vehicles to electric vans to increase sustainability locally. DHL’s worldwide logistics network can achieve net-zero carbon emissions by bridging the “last mile” of green freight with this alliance.”
