A 33-year-old deliveryman was found guilty of raping his stepdaughter and was sentenced to 60 years in prison and 42 strokes of the cane at the Sessions Court on Thursday.
The defendant faces a total of 5 charges. The first to fourth charges allege that the defendant raped the victim who was 11 years old at the time of the incident in a house in Gualanirus, violating Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code (rape).
The fifth charge alleges that the defendant sexually assaulted the victim, violating Section 377ca of the Penal Code (incest and unnatural sexual intercourse). All of the defendant’s crimes are alleged to have been committed between June and November 2021.
Judge Nuria Osman convicted the defendant on all five charges. The first to fourth charges were each sentenced to 15 years in prison and 10 strokes of the cane, while the fifth charge was sentenced to seven years in prison and two strokes of the cane.
The judge also pronounced the sentence at the same time. The first to third sentences will be executed separately, and the sentence will be calculated from the date of sentencing; the fourth and fifth sentences will be executed at the same time, and the sentence will be calculated from the date of sentencing.
