December 11 is an official holiday in Selangor!
According to the Public Holiday Schedule 2021 released by the Cabinet, December 11 is the birthday of the Sultan of Selangor and the Sultan’s birthday will be an official holiday. If an employer requires an employee to work on this day, then he/she must be given double pay or make up the day off.
In 2021, the Sultan of Selangor’s birthday falls on a Saturday, so people who do not have to work on Saturday and Sunday lose a day off. However, for those who normally have to work on Saturday, December 11 will be an additional day off.
Under Section 60D of the Labour Act 1955, all working people are entitled to 11 paid public holidays per year, of which 5 are statutory public holidays, namely National Day, the birthday of the Supreme Head of State, the birthday of the Sultan or State Head of State or Federal Territory Day, Labour Day and Malaysia Day.
If you are unable to enjoy the Sultan of Selangor’s Birthday on December 11, then the next public holiday is Christmas Day on December 25. This year, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day on January 1 also fall on a Saturday.
