In an effort to encourage people to self-test, government announced last year that covid testing would be included as a tax deduction, meaning that people who undergo covid testing last year and this year will receive a tax deduction when they file their taxes the following year.
Covid test will be included as a personal income tax deduction up to RM1,000 for the cost of the medical examination. The tax deduction applies to the covid test performed on the individual, spouse or children.
Remember to keep your receipts after having a covid check-up so that you can prove that you had the check-up if the tax office asks you to show them.
In fact, in addition to the tax deduction for a covid exam, you may also receive a tax deduction for mental health or counseling and a tax deduction for a second year of paid vaccinations.
