Covid-19 vaccines’ shelf life has been extended.

10/01/2023

Covid-19 vaccines’ expiry date is extended to 1 year.

According to Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the shelf life of the Covid-19 vaccines used in Malaysia has been extended after the manufacturing company submitted new data on the vaccine’s stability.

When the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) grants conditional approval, there is a rolling submission, indicating that the vaccine is more stable.

As a result, the vaccine vials’ expiry date will be extended from six months to one year, depending on the manufacturer’s stability data.

The NPRA approved an extension of the shelf life of SinoVac’s CoronaVac and Pfizer-Comirnaty BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccines for six and three months, respectively, compared to the original date printed on the vial in November last year.

Meanwhile, Dr Saidatul Norbaya Buang of the Health Ministry’s (MoH) Public Health Physician (Family Health Development Division) stated that an average of 7,000 second booster dose injections are administered daily.

Booster vaccinations are available at 1,293 vaccination centres (PPVs) across the country, including 104 MoH hospitals, 754 clinics, and 435 private PPVs.

Individuals in the priority group can get vaccinations without an appointment by walking into hospitals, health clinics, or private PPVs, whereas those in the other categories must book an appointment through the MySejahtera app or call the PPV.
