College student equipment program re-tendered, tablets not expected to be issued to college students until July!

27/05/2022

The distribution of tablets for tertiary students, which was supposed to start in the second week of June, is expected to be delayed until July!

According to the news issued by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Tan Sri Anuar Musa, the tender for the PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia (a program for Internet access devices for tertiary students) has been suspended by the Ministry of Finance, and therefore the distribution of tablets to eligible tertiary students will be delayed.

The Ministry of Finance found that there were problems with the tender for the Internet access device program for a Malaysian college student and therefore requested a new tender. The second tender will be conducted online and the whole evaluation process will be faster and the distribution of tablets to the students is expected to start in early July.

The Malaysian Internet Access Program is a government assistance program that aims to ease the burden of post-secondary students from low-income families. Through this program, tertiary students from low-income families will be given a tablet computer. All students are eligible to apply for the program, whether they are attending a state or private college.

Applications for this program were opened in April and closed on May 15.
