Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres World Tour 2023” Guest Lineup Sparks Discussions and Controversy

15/06/2023

On November 22, the British rock band Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres World Tour 2023” will make its way to Malaysia. Recently, the concert’s guest roster was revealed by the tour’s organizers, which sparked passionate discussions online.

The opening artist for Coldplay’s event will be Malaysian rapper Bunga (Noor Ayu Fatini), according to a Facebook post from Live Nation. Japanese duet Yoasobi, Taiwanese band Accusefive, and Indonesian vocalist Rahmania Astrini are among the special guests announced by the event’s organizers in Japan, Taiwan, and Indonesia.

Following the announcement by the organizers, some online commenters questioned who the opening act, Bunga, is.

“Is Bunga on the same level as Coldplay?”

“So, who is Bunga?” Others responded,

“We don’t care about the opening act; we only care if there will be a second concert!”

Additionally, other online users highlighted the fact that Bunga is a rapper and that her ability to perform with Coldplay is evidence of her talent, which sparked conflicting views in the comment area.

At 23 years old, Bunga released several popular songs such as “Mereng,” “Amaran,” and “Intan Payung.” She made waves throughout the world when she performed wearing the Baju Kurung, Malaysia’s customary attire and was profiled as the first rapper to wear a headscarf by The New York Times.

Many online users made rude remarks in the comments section about how funny online trolls are. It was previously criticized as a lack of local artists when Taiwan’s well-known idol group WOLF(S) recruited Malaysian YouTuber 3P as a guest performer. Now that Coldplay had chosen local rapper Bunga to open the show, the decision still couldn’t escape the attention of online users.
