GSC cinema in Melaka was fined RM45,000 for violating the anti-profiteering act!
GSC was charged under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 for selling a bottle of 600ml mineral water at RM3.30, earning 0.97% profit, and a packet of 75g potato chips at RM5, earning 1.23% profit.
According to the Melaka Trade and Consumer Council (MTC) on June 14, the case was heard and decided on June 13 in the District Court, with seven witnesses from the prosecution and defense being called to testify.
GSC was fined $45,000
Since the defendants were unable to produce evidence that the drinks and chips they sold were within a reasonable price range, District Court Judge Nariman found the case “beyond reasonable doubt” and sentenced GSC to a fine of RM45,000 after considering both sides’ arguments and the merits of the case.
The lawyer representing the defense also asked the court to reduce the fine before handing down the sentence because it was the first time that the client made a mistake and the price of the mineral water and potato chips sold was only a technical error and the profit was not high.
The statement also said that under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act, an individual or commercial organization can be fined not more than RM500,000 upon conviction, and repeat offenders can be fined not more than RM1 million.
It is reported that the GSC cinema involved is located in Heroes Square, Melaka.
GSC editorial speaks out of heartache
On the other hand, after the case was reported by China Daily, it was posted on Facebook with the following words: “So happy! The words “What does the GSC editor think” also drew a response from the GSC Facebook editor. However, when I went to check again, the message from GSC was no longer there, so I believe it has been deleted.
“What a ‘great pleasure’, each theater ticket was drawn 30 dobasian entertainment tax, you know? Did you know that each ticket is distributed to the film production company? The rest you think enough to give rent, labor, maintenance, marketing, equipment, electricity, water, insurance, etc., etc.? The four words “big piece of heart, really thank you”
The GSC editor also put down the “love” and “Bizarre” emoji at the back of the reply.
Netizens have different opinions
Some people think that if you think it’s hard, then don’t do it, but many others support GSC and think that if it’s too expensive, then “you don’t have to buy it”.
In any case, we all have a hard time in the epidemic, any field is good, rare are survived, we should get along peacefully is, less disputes, support each other through the difficult times.
