Christmas and New Year both fall on Sunday, causing a three-day weekend.

Christmas and New Year both fall on Sunday, making a 3-day weekend.

Christmas is on December 25th, and New Year is on January 1st. Because these two days fall on Sunday, they can enjoy a compensatory holiday on the following Monday, forming a three-day long weekend holiday.

Because Christmas on December 25th falls on a Sunday, Monday, December 26th will be a compensatory holiday. If the weekly holiday on December 24 (Saturday) is included, this results in three days of long weekend holidays: Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Because New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday, January 2 (Monday) will be declared a holiday in its place. As a result, there will be a three-day holiday from December 31 to January 2.

However, the supplementary holidays on December 26 (Monday) and January 2 (Monday) do not apply to Johor, Kelantan, Kedah, and Terengganu because Sundays are not weekend in these four states.

Christmas and New Year’s Day in 2022 will be the first after the epidemic. The government also implemented strict epidemic prevention measures on the day of the epidemic in 2020, so no one could celebrate Christmas or New Year’s Day.

Severe floods occurred in the Selangor area a few days before Christmas in 2021, affecting the celebration mood of the people in the Selangor area. Due to the delay in the epidemic, people in other areas were forced to cancel many large Christmas gatherings. The evening news programme was also forced to scale back or even cease operations.

This year 2022 can be considered the first Christmas and New Year’s Eve after everyone has returned to normal life and can enjoy the carnival.
