Celcom, which had 8.99 million mobile subscribers in the first quarter, added 229,000 new subscribers in the second. As of q2 2021, Celcom had a total of 9.22 million mobile subscribers.

Celcom had 5.93 million prepaid subscribers in the first quarter, compared with 6.12 million in the second quarter. In terms of post-payment users, it had 3.06 million users in the first quarter and 3.11 million in the second quarter. Celcom’s 4G coverage remains at 93%, 90% of which supports LTE-A speeds.

In particular, Celcom is not allowed to build its own 5G network because the government has awarded all 5G spectrum to National Digital Corporation limited (DNB).

Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) is a special purpose wholly owned by the Ministry of Finance and regulated by the Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (MCMC). The company combines different people with expertise in public finance, telecommunications law enforcement, information technology, telecommunications and law to build, own and manage Malaysia’s 5G network and commercialize it across the country.

Telecom companies in Malaysia will use the 5G network built by Digital Nasional Bhd.
