Authorities have verified the apprehension of a 36-year-old male to aid in the probe concerning his alleged endorsement of the initiation of diplomatic ties between Israel and Malaysia.
Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Federal Police (Bukit Aman), Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, stated that the man is suspected of saying the things in an online interview with Israeli social media influencer Hananya Naftali that was posted on the TikTok platform of a local media portal.
He claims that the man has been detained for three days, from today through Friday.
“The investigation into this case is being carried out by the CID’s Classified Criminal Investigation Unit, Law/Prosecution Division (D5) under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said in a statement tonight.
Mohd Shuhaily added that as the case is still under investigation, he advised the public not to make any comments or speculations about it.
“The police remind the public to be wise users of social media and not to misuse these applications for purposes that violate the law,” he said.
Recently, a video went viral showing a man believed to be a Malaysian citizen engaging in an online interview with the Israeli influencer Hananya Naftali, allegedly stating that Malaysia should have diplomatic relations with Israel and requesting the opening of the Israeli embassy in the country.
Mohd Shuhaily emphasized that the case is currently under investigation, urging the public to refrain from making comments or engaging in speculations. He cautioned against the misuse of social media platforms, advising users to act responsibly and within legal boundaries.
