The iPhone 14 series is about to be launched, but the Brazilian government has ordered Apple to stop selling iPhones without chargers in the country, and claims that Apple is offering consumers an incomplete product.
The Brazilian Justice Department fined Apple R$12.275 million (about $2.38 million) and ordered the cancellation of orders for the sale of the iPhone 12 and newer models, as well as a moratorium on the sale of any iPhone model without a charger!
Not only that, but Brazilian authorities even rejected the argument that Apple’s failure to provide chargers is actually aimed at reducing carbon emissions, claiming that Apple simply has no evidence that selling smartphones without chargers is environmentally friendly.
In an order published in the Brazilian official gazette, the Ministry of Justice said that the iPhone lacks the necessary components and that there is a “deliberate practice of discrimination against consumers”. Many people are saying that the Brazilian ban was issued the day before Apple’s iPhone 14 series, and that, not surprisingly, the iPhone 14 series will still not come with a charger in most regions; Apple also declined to comment on the matter.
