Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Dato’ Sri Nancy Shukri said Malaysia expects more than 1,000 tourists to enter Malaysia after the country opens its doors tomorrow and attract 2 million foreign tourists within a year come to Malaysia.
Nancy Shukri said the ministry expects thousands of tourists to arrive in Malaysia tomorrow from various points of entry.
“We are currently expecting thousands of tourists to arrive in Malaysia tomorrow, with over 100 tourists from Etihad Airways arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport tomorrow.”
She said now was the best time to fully revive the tourism industry and had a comprehensive plan in place for it.
She said that since most tourists want to come to Malaysia for tourism, and Chinese people are also eager to travel abroad, she is optimistic about the reopening of the country tomorrow.
Before the pandemic, Malaysia welcomed 26.1 million foreign tourists in 2019 with a total expenditure of RM86.1 billion, of which spending on shopping, accommodation and dining accounted for RM61 billion of tourist receipts in 2019.”
“We are aiming to reach our target of 2 million foreign tourists and RM8.6 billion in foreign tourist receipts this year,” he said.
