Another school nearby, Sekolah Tinggi Islam As-Sofa, was the target of a bomb hoax on Tuesday (Nov. 21) that resulted in the evacuation of over 500 students and staff.
The threat was sent to the school’s email account on Tuesday, according to Rembau OCPD Deputy Supt Hazri Mohamad.
“Early on Tuesday morning, the sender alleged that a bomb had been planted in the school compound.
“Police and Fire and Rescue Department personnel were immediately alerted and carried out checks at the school,” he said in a press release.
When sent in to conduct additional checks, a bomb disposal team from the state police contingent also turned up empty-handed.
Students and staff were only permitted to return to the school following a comprehensive inspection, according to DSP Hazri.
He said that Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act, which addresses misuse of network facilities, and Section 507 of the Penal Code, which deals with criminal intimidation, were both being looked into in this case.
