A US data consulting company called Altrata published its “Billionaire Census 2023” report in June. According to the survey, the United States continues to have the most billionaires with 955, followed by China with 357. Germany comes in third. The first three places on the list of the top 16 cities with the most billionaires are held by New York, Hong Kong, and San Francisco.
The research estimates that there will be 3,194 billionaires worldwide in 2022, a 3.4% decline from 2017. Since 2018, this is the first annual decline. As a result, billionaires’ overall net worth decreased by 5.5% and lost at least $11.1 trillion. The decline is the second-largest in the previous ten years.
According to the study, the number of billionaires worldwide fell to 3,194 in 2022, the first decrease since 2018. With 955 individuals, the United States maintained its position as the nation with the most billionaires despite a 2.1% decline. Only two of the top 15 nations with the highest concentrations of billionaires saw their numbers rise: Russia (up 4.7% to 112 billionaires) and Singapore (up 8% to 54 billionaires).
With 136 persons, New York continued to hold the title of the city with the most billionaires in the world (despite a two-person decline). San Francisco witnessed a reduction of one billionaire to 84, while Hong Kong saw a decrease of two to 112 billionaires. On the other side, Moscow added one more billionaire, bringing the total to 76.
The analysis labels 2022 as an extraordinary year and attributes variations in the number of billionaires and their wealth to market volatility worldwide, the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, and historically high levels of inflation.
