Belgian hospital meals of high quality certified by the French Gourmet Guide

16/03/2023

A hospital in western Belgium has defied the norm that hospital food is inferior to that served in schools by being featured in a prestigious French food guide.

According to Reuters, the Gault & Millau gourmet guide, second only to the Michelin guide in France, has awarded the AZ Groeninge Hospital in Kortrijk, Belgium, with the first Benelux recognition for the high quality of meals served to patients.

Gault & Millau experts collaborated with the hospital to evaluate the in-house dining service and make recommendations for improvement. The guide assured us that the food was so delicious that Marc Declerck, CEO of Gault Millau’s Benelux branch, would be happy to have it served in his home.

Marc Declerck recommends using high-quality ingredients and keeping your meals straightforward. “In general, simplicity is preferred by the public. Cook for each other as you would for yourself, making sure it’s nutritious and delicious.”

These hospital meals have been certified for the 2023 “Gault Millau” guide, but they will not appear in the actual guide.
