Barrier-free toll collection system to be implemented by 2025, users can use any electronic payment method to pay tolls!

25/01/2022

Good news! The government will open up the possibility for road users to use any electronic payment method to pay the toll, no longer limited to the use of Touch ‘n Go.

According to a message from Senior Minister of Works Datuk Seri Fadillah, the government will allow road users to use any electronic payment method other than Touch ‘n Go when the RFID system reaches a certain penetration rate.

Road users will then be able to use any electronic payment method to pay the toll, including Touch ‘n Go eWallet, Debit Card, Credit Card, eWallet, etc.

The concessionaire of the Expressway has been instructed to prepare for the implementation of a multi-lane flow (MLFF) system by 2025. The so-called MLFF system is a barrier-free toll collection system, which means that there are no toll booths or dedicated lanes. Vehicles will be detected by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) when passing through a specific area and a toll will be levied.

It is understood that the Touch ‘n Go Card will be phased out by 2025, as will the SmartTAG lanes. There are currently 20 million Touch ‘n Go cards in circulation nationwide, 91% of which are transacted on 31 thoroughfares, which are used to pay tolls.
