According to the news issued by banks, a fee of RM1.00 will be charged when you withdraw money from inter-bank ATMs starting from February 1, 2022.
For example, if you hold a bank card from Hong Leong Bank and you want to withdraw money from a Malayan Bank ATM, you will have to pay a fee of RM1.00. If you hold a Malayan Bank bank card and you withdraw money from a Malayan Bank ATM, you will not be charged the RM1.00 fee.
When the government implemented the Action Control Order in 2020, banks in the country announced to temporarily waive the RM1.00 fee for inter-bank withdrawals to facilitate withdrawals and avoid people from withdrawing money across states. With the government opening up economic activities and lifting the ban on movement restrictions, banks will resume charging the RM1.00 inter-bank ATM handling fee.
ATMs are a crowded place, so it is recommended to use e-wallets and e-transfers for transactions, which will reduce the number of ATM withdrawals and the risk of contracting covid.
