Bank Negara announced that the OPR will remain at 2.75%.
On January 19, Bank Negara held its monetary policy committee (MPC). Bank Negara Malaysia decided to keep the current overnight policy rate in a statement issued following the meeting. The OPR rate was announced for the first time this year, and the next one will be in March.
The Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) will remain unchanged, which is good news for borrowers because they will not be burdened with loans every month.
However, for fixed-income depositors, the fact that Bank Negara does not raise interest rates is bad news because they will not be able to enjoy higher deposit interest every month.
Bank Negara stated in the statement that, while the pace of interest rate hikes has slowed, it expects to continue raising rates to control inflationary pressures.
